Button Bouquet

Buttons are such fun and ever so popular.  I know that I can’t resist the temptation of buying beautiful little buttons in the store when I see them.   I’m sure you’ve seen many of the little button flowers floating around the internet and on Etsy, people use them for all sorts of purposes.  I think they would make a beautiful little plant marker, or a bouquet for a friend, I’ve even seen beautiful jewelry made from button flowers.

They are fast, simple and easy to make, and to prove it here is a tutorial!  Be sure to read it completely before making, helpful tips are given at the end.

SUPPLIES & TOOLS

You’ll need:

  • a selection of buttons in varying sizes and colors
  • flush cutters (though plain wire cutters will work too)
  • floral wire (perfect if you are using for a plant marker or decor, use jewelry wire if using for jewelry)
  • Flat nose pliers (these are completely optional but can make the twisting process less painful on your hands)

SuppliesDIRECTIONS

For each flower:

  1. Cut two lengths of wire for each flower (you’ll want each wire to be about 2 1/2 times the legnth you want the finished flower to be when finished)
  2. Select 2 to 3 buttons for each flower (I prefer the look of 3 everything is better in 3’s)Select your button sizes
  3. Fold each wire in half to form a small “U” shape at the middle of the wire.button flowers Step 3
  4. button flowers Step 4
  5. pull wires on back so that there are 2 to each side (one from each hole to each side)button flower step 5button flower step 5 side view
  6. Begin twisting the two sets of two wires together to form the stem of your flower. Clip the end to the desired height.  Repeat and make the number of flowers you would like for your project.button flower step 6

If you want thinner stems run one wire through the buttons twice and twist the stem afterward.  By using jewelry wire you can create rings, necklaces, pins, hair accessories and more.  These look great on the end of a bobbypin as hair decorations.

Repeat and make the quantity of flowers that you would like, use them to decorateand make your projects just a little extra special. And of course, if you have any questions feel free to post them here.
